I see a rise in campus shootings.

My campus went from smoking to smoking in only select remote areas. It was wonderful!!

Wait until people discover no smoking means no smoking weed.
But edibles, vaporizers...
Wow. Such Rebel. Many Stone. Impress.

College is stressful. It leads some kids to start smoking as a relaxer. I did for a while. Making a university smoke free could end very poorly if other ways of relieving stress aren't promoted.

Yeah we have a 25ft rule. No one enforeces it and no one follows it. So more smoke free it gets the happier I will be.

On the entire campus, like in your car also?

We will be the third or fourth college in the state to do it. There havent been any huge repercussions yet from the ban.

I haven't been on a college campus in a while, is smoking still really common? I mean, overall I see fewer and fewer smokers everywhere.

All it says is that it would be a campus ban. I done know what the details would be.

Man if you tried smoking by the main lecture hall at my school an ex-KGB agent would come over and...give you a stern talking to and a possibly a citation. Vladimir's a pretty cool dude.

Its still pretty big on college campuses. When walking from class to class I will see any where from a few to 20 or so. So it is still somewhat of an issue.

I did too and the I came to college, suddenly I was in the 1960s

Yeah the only thing our campus police likes to do is bust underage drinking or pot smoking. Never seen them actually do anything else to be honest.

Yeah, but then we have the whole "Masturbation Free Zone" argument.
It's just a cyclical argument.
There's always suicide.
(please excuse my black humor; it was only humor)

Sharp bump in e-cigs sales in the area. They will be fighting the man in their mind.

Did they ban vaping, too?
![]() 02/19/2014 at 18:16 |

I dont know. The whole e-cig thing still have huge question marks on it.

UT-Austin has been smoke-free for a number of years now. The whole campus. I used to sit outside and have a cigar in the afternoons back when I was in school. No more. And the world kept turning, and the University didn't crumble.
The only complaint I have is that, since my wife works there, and gets her insurance through UT, they make us pay more for health insurance if we smoke. And there is no distinction between cigarettes, cigars or pipes. I don't have any problem with them making the campus smoke-free, but trying to alter our behavior at home seems a bit of a stretch for me. But I understand that smokers drive up insurance costs, so I guess I can live with it.

Does your school allow alcohol? Mine doesn't and it seems we have an very high number of smokers compared to some nearby schools that do.

The campus is "dry" but tons of people drink here. And unless you are in the freshmen dorm its not enforced at all, and even there its tough to really do anything,
![]() 02/19/2014 at 18:29 |
|
Well that would do it. We have a super strict, highly enforced no alcohol policy. 1st offense is a 70 dollar fine. 2nd is a fine and a trip to an AA meeting. 3 gets you kicked out. My very first semester saw 23 students being kicked out for alcohol. My school is basically under martial law 24/7.

Is it a dry campus as well? I don't give a rat's ass about smoking as I don't smoke, but our campus was dry and it was really shitty. Especially if you were on an SAE team and couldn't drink in the garage or while doing CAD.
![]() 02/19/2014 at 18:52 |
|
It is a "dry" campus in the way that it is against the rules. Whether or not it is enforced is a different issue all together.
![]() 02/19/2014 at 18:56 |

That didn't stop the state of CA from declaring that they should have the same prohibitions as cigarettes. Which, in my opinion, is stupid. Until there is any actual study that shows vaping is harmful, they should not consider it the same thing.

A dry college campus? WHAT. THE. FUCK.
I hope the curriculum and the professors and the chicks are all worth it, I mean totally-completely-100%-absolutely worth it, 'cause if not, you need to find a new school.
Unless, of course, you don't drink. In that case, then... well, uh... just carry on. Forget I was here!
![]() 02/19/2014 at 19:13 |

The professors are 75% adjuncts and teach high school or at a community college as well, The chicks come for one semester and realize it's an awful school, my particular major is on the brink of being dropped as I am the last person in it, the president plagiarized his papers that got him the job in the first place. You get a $50 dollar fine if you walk on the grass or a two lane vehicle bridge that was built using tuition money because it's for emergency vehicles only, so it never gets used. Yea it's a great school. I recommend it if you like getting rammed in the ass on a daily basis.

For some reason, I have a sudden strong desire to get more post-secondary education... Just not at your school. Sorry.

Haha don't be sorry. If I hadn't screwed myself by taking all of my major classes instead of Gen Eds, I would've transferred after my first year. Like all the smart kids do.

Wow. And here I was thinking most would know better. That's not me pointing a finger since I have fought vises of my own. Most people I know who smoke only do so when they're drunk.

I wish my college would.
I understand completely that it's a person's right to light up, but it's my right to want to stay healthy. Simple as that. You want to smoke? Don't do it around me, that's all. I don't see why this can't be respected.
If you care so little about your own health that you smoke, you shouldn't be complaining about smoking in the cold or in your car. If it's that bad that you get all moody and shit when you don't get your smoke every 12 minutes, it's time to get over yourself and sort your shit out.
I dumped an ex-girlfriend partly over this (but mainly over much worse things). When we started dating, I told her, one cigarette, and that's it, I'm done. Nearly two years later, she realized I wasn't kidding. I'm not kissing an ashtray. I don't care if you just wanted to try it, or you think it's the next best thing since sliced bread.
